Just giving a quick update about my shadowbanned Instagram account (@courtshootsfilm). It’s been a frustrating week and a half, to say the least. I’ve searched the Internet trying to find better advice than just “don’t use banned hashtags” and “don’t log in to your account for 2-3 days.” (I tried the latter, by the way, and I was still shadowbanned when I logged back in to my account. I have also tried filling out the “Report a Problem” form in the IG app…twice…but I’ve never received any kind of response.)
The photo you see here, which is a screen shot from my Instagram app, illustrates part of what shadowbanning is/does. I’ve been using the original hashtag #editingdust on my images for a while now. I think I had about 12 or more images showing up under #editingdust hashtag before the shadowbanning occurred. Now, as you can see, only one image is visible under my hashtag, and it isn’t even from one of my own posts. My model posted this photo to her own IG account and used #editingdust. What’s odd is that at the top it says there are 5 posts using this hashtag, when I’ve tagged way more than 5 images.
Anyway, last week I decided to just carry on posting and liking other people’s photos as usual because I was tired of trying to figure out how to end my shadowban. Nothing I tried was working anyway, and I figure this ban can’t last forever. They’ll have to lift it eventually…right?
Well, I did one more Google search this morning for “how long will my shadowban last if I do nothing,” and I found several posts (mostly on Reddit) from people who claimed that their shadowbans were lifted in exactly 14 days. My 14th day happens to be two days from now, so I’ll just cross my fingers and give you guys an update then.
